Check valves are specifically designed for pulps / tailings. The valve is normally in the pump discharge. In the static situation the ball is held in the seat by reverse pressure (back pressure). When the pump starts and equalizes the pressure, the ball moves towards the top where the ball is free to move and rotate in the fluid that flows through the valve, therefore the ball does not generate accumulation of solids (self-cleaning). As the pump stops pumping, the ball falls into the seat and is positioned in the closed position by the back pressure.
